Rules & Safety

Safety & Rules.

We do not want to be a club of only rules and regulations, but for our own safety, we have some which are necessary to keep us safe while on the hills and help better organise our day. Overall we try to adopt a pragmatic and light-hearted approach to our rules, but please note we do take safety and the respect of members seriously and expect you to do likewise.  You must be over 30 years of age to come along on any club walk. It doesn't matter if you feel young at heart once you are 30 and over.

Personal Responsibility

01 Respect for other club members is essential.
02. Walking, climbing or scrambling on the mountains can be hazardous and you participate in full awareness of such risks to your own safety and life. Each person will be responsible for their own safety during a walk.

03. You will be responsible for determining that your own health and fitness is satisfactory to participate in any club walk or event. Your G.P. will advise you if you are unsure.
04. You will be walking as part of a group, so for safety, you must not leave the group until the completion of the walk.

05. Comply with wearing proper hiking boots and walking gear. There are no exceptions to this rule. No other footwear is acceptable.
06. If you are late for a hike, please don't ring another member to ask a walk leader to have the group wait for you. The hike will leave at the advertised time to respect the group.

07. Trawling for members' phone numbers or personal details is prohibited. Please respect people's right to privacy. If a member wishes to disclose their details to you, that is their choice, but don't ask. Personal phone numbers of hike leaders will not be disclosed.
08. Do you best to sign in for your walk at least two days in advance so the Walk Leader will have final numbers. However please do not attend a hike if you have not signed in a day in advance.

While hiking
01. The walk leader may refuse any member to attend a hike without having to justify it.
02. The walk leader will set the pace of the walk, and you must follow their instructions for the group's safety. Do not walk ahead of the walk leader, as you may unintentionally increase the group's pace or go off in a different direction. Likewise, stay ahead of the walk sweeper.
Picture
03. You must let the walk leader know if you decide to leave the walk. At that point, you become responsible for your own navigation and may be refused to attend further hikes.
04 If you find it hard to keep the pace, bring it to the walk leader or sweeper's attention rather than struggling unnecessarily.

05 We encourage you to take photographs, but please do not delay the hike.
06 No dogs allowed on hikes.

07 Let your Walk Leader know if you suffer from any medical condition which may need their assistance during a walk. If they cannot assist you then do not walk, and clarify this before you walk.
08 Each person will be responsible for their own safety during a walk.

09. At the end of a hike, do not leave before the walk leader gathers the group together so as to account for everyone's safe return.

Hiking throughout the year.
